Ireland’s National Flight Centre Calls for Reopening of Galway Airport to Support Regional Aviation

17th Dec 2025

Ireland – National Flight Centre (NFC), a long-established Irish flight training organisation, has renewed calls for the reopening of Galway Airport at Carnmore, highlighting the strategic importance of the facility for regional aviation activity, pilot training, and economic development.

  • Galway Airport was previously one of Europe’s fastest-growing regional airports before its closure, and its absence has left a gap in western Ireland’s aviation infrastructure.

  • National Flight Centre emphasised that reopening the airport would support local employment creation, stimulate regional economic growth, and strengthen tourism connectivity.

  • NFC is asking for relevant stakeholders to sign the petition (can be found on the social channels).
