Liberty University Seeks Executive Director of Flight Training Operations in 2026

Virginia, USA – Liberty University is seeking to recruit an Executive Director of Flight Training Operations to lead its School of Aeronautics’ Part 61, Part 91 and Part 141 activities in Lynchburg.

• The full-time, onsite position offers an annual salary of USD100,000–135,000 and may include health insurance, retirement benefits and tuition assistance.
• The executive will oversee:
  • An operating budget exceeding USD25 million.
  • Lifecycle planning for more than 45 aircraft valued above USD19 million.
  • Three directors and one coordinator reporting directly.
  • More than 170 employees through indirect supervision.
• Responsibilities cover scheduling, dispatch, maintenance control, instructor standardization, student evaluations and special flight programs under FAA Parts 61, 91 and 141.
• The role will direct curriculum and publication development, including FAA-approved Training Course Outlines, Operations Course Manuals and syllabi aligned with Liberty’s academic degree requirements.
• External coordination will include the FAA, Transportation Security Administration, Department of Veterans Affairs, Freedom Aviation and Lynchburg Regional Airport.
• Minimum requirements include:
  • A master’s degree in aeronautics, aviation management, aerospace or a related field.
  • Ten years of progressive aviation training or flight operations experience.
  • Five years in aviation training or flight operations leadership.
  • Experience managing FAA-regulated programs.
  • FAA Commercial Pilot and Certified Flight Instructor certificates.
• Preferred credentials include Airline Transport Pilot, Certified Flight Instructor–Instrument and Multi-Engine Instructor certificates, plus 10 years of aviation training or flight operations leadership.
• Liberty’s public training-fleet inventory lists 33 aircraft, 13 flight training devices and 11 unmanned aircraft. Aircraft types include Cessna 172S Skyhawks, Piper PA-44 Seminoles and an Extra 330LX, while its devices include Frasca C172 and PA-44 trainers, reconfigurable devices and basic aviation training devices.
• AFM previously reported that Liberty received FAA examining authority for its Part 141 Private Pilot Training Course Outline in November 2025 and introduced upgraded Frasca simulation capability and an in-house upset prevention and recovery training aircraft during 2026.
