- The full-time, two-year fixed-term position was published on 28 July 2026, with applications closing on 11 August 2026.
- The manager will identify new aviation training business and growth areas, conduct market, technology and competitor analysis, and evaluate potential technologies and partnerships from initial concept through to proof of concept.
- Responsibilities include initiating and managing innovation and research projects, developing pilot programmes, overseeing LAT’s research, development and strategy portfolio, and advising on funding options for innovation initiatives.
- The successful candidate will also establish an Innovation Competence Center and develop relationships with internal specialists, technology providers, start-ups, universities and research institutions.

The role also requires experience developing business cases, an interest in digitalisation, artificial intelligence and automation, and strong German and English language skills.
- LAT is currently conducting several data-based training and artificial intelligence projects. These include collecting A320 full-flight simulator data with CAE and Brussels Airlines, testing AI applications in single-engine piston aircraft training and developing an aviation training large language model supported by Microsoft-hosted cloud infrastructure.
- AFM previously reported that LAT and ETH Zurich launched a three-year project to develop a digital version of an Airbus A320 Cabin Emergency Evacuation Trainer, supported by approximately €1.5 million in German federal funding. The project uses virtual reality, eye tracking and physiological sensors to assess whether safety and emergency training content can be delivered through immersive systems.
