Germany – Lufthansa City Airlines has selected Austrian aviation training software provider Heading365's Airbus A220 FMS Trainer PRO to support the introduction of its new Airbus A220-300 fleet. The customised application will be made available to the airline's entire pilot workforce, expanding an existing training relationship between the two organisations.

  • Lufthansa City Airlines has 40 Airbus A220-300 aircraft on firm order, with options for another 20, representing a potential fleet of 60 aircraft. Deliveries are scheduled to begin in 2026 and continue through 2031, creating requirements for aircraft type familiarisation and pilot qualification as the fleet enters service.
  • The airline intends to provide all its pilots with access to the customised A220 training application, allowing flight crew members to practise aircraft-specific Flight Management System (FMS) procedures independently of scheduled simulator sessions and dedicated training facilities.
  • The application supports self-paced preparation for initial aircraft qualification and familiarisation with A220 flight deck procedures.
  • Lufthansa City Airlines began preparations for its A220 introduction earlier in 2026, establishing a cross-functional aircraft induction team and progressing crew training arrangements ahead of the first scheduled aircraft delivery in November.
  • Heading365's A220 FMS Trainer PRO is an iPad-based application incorporating the Flight Management System, Primary Flight Display (PFD), Vertical Situation Display (VSD) and Flight Control Panel (FCP). Its functionality includes integrated autoflight, flight-phase simulation, free-play training, worldwide navigation data, scenario-based exercises and the ability to save and reload training states.
