Bahrain - Capital A Berhad, the parent company of Air Asia, has signed a Letter of Intent (LOI) with the Ministry of Transportation and Telecommunications of the Kingdom of Bahrain to explore establishing Bahrain as Air Asia’s Middle East hub.
- The LOI sets a broad cooperation framework across airline operations, cargo and logistics, maintenance, and aviation talent development, aimed at building a long-term aviation and economic bridge between Bahrain and the ASEAN region.
- Air Asia plans to launch flights from Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia, and the Philippines to Bahrain within the next five years, with onward connections to Europe and the United States.
- The Group will also evaluate the creation of a Bahrain-based Air Operator Certificate (AOC) to operate narrowbody aircraft serving destinations across the Middle East, Central Asia, Africa, and Europe.
- By 2030, Air Asia expects to operate over 25 daily flights via Bahrain, carrying more than 20 million passengers over five years and contributing an estimated BHD 3 billion (US $8 billion) to Bahrain’s economy.
- The expansion is forecast to support over 100,000 jobs across aviation and related sectors, including 1,000 local hires in the first year through a targeted Bahraini talent development program for pilots, engineers, cabin crew, and ground personnel.
