Major US Airline Pilot Pathway Program Reaches 6 Year Milestone

October 7, 2025

USA — United Airlines is celebrating the sixth anniversary of its United Aviate pilot development and pathway program, marking a major milestone in the airline’s long-term investment in cultivating future flight deck talent. Established in 2019, the Aviate initiative has become one of the aviation industry’s most structured and reliable career pathways, connecting aspiring pilots from training to airline employment under the United brand.

  • United’s Aviate program, launched in 2019, offers pilots a defined and secure pathway to the United flight deck through partnerships with universities, flight schools, Part 135 operators, and United Express carriers.
  • The Aviate network now includes over 30 partner institutions, forming a key component of United’s pilot recruitment and retention strategy.
  • The program currently supports nearly 3,000 active participants, each receiving mentorship from United flight crew through a network of 770 volunteer Aviate Coaches.
  • United Aviate Academy (UAA), the airline’s wholly owned flight school in Goodyear, Arizona, operates separately but complements the broader Aviate ecosystem. UAA’s application window is currently open for new cadets.
  • In 2025 alone, Aviate participants logged more than 760,000 flight hours using the airline’s My Aviate digital platform.
  • The program has achieved strong community engagement, with 33,000+ Instagram followers, 40 success stories shared, and over 100 recruitment and industry events hosted nationwide this year.
  • United credits the program’s success to active collaboration between Aviate participants, Coaches, and the airline’s training and recruitment teams, creating one of the industry’s most comprehensive pilot career pipelines.
