Maloy Aircraft Appoints Former Gulfstream Engineering Executive Tim Farley to Board

Florida, USA – Maloy Aircraft, a Florida-based aircraft developer building the MA-1 Blue Jay professional pilot training system, has appointed former Gulfstream Aerospace Vice President of Engineering Tim Farley to its Board of Directors as an independent director.

• Farley spent nearly 23 years at Gulfstream Aerospace, progressing from design engineer to Vice President of Engineering and ultimately leading an engineering organisation of more than 1,600 personnel, according to Maloy Aircraft.
• His Gulfstream work included the Gulfstream V powerplant programme and development of the G450 and G550, alongside responsibilities spanning systems integration, research and development, testing, engineering operations and certification of civil and military aircraft variants.
• As an independent director, Farley will provide Board-level oversight and guidance covering aircraft development, engineering execution, certification readiness, technical risk and programme priorities.
• Farley began his engineering career at McDonnell Douglas and later served as Vice President of Design Engineering at Daniel Defense. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Aeronautical Engineering and Master of Science in Technical Management from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University.
• The MA-1 Blue Jay is being developed as a tandem-seat professional pilot trainer using a 500 shp RED A03-102 V12 compression-ignition engine operating on Jet A, a three-blade MT-Propeller constant-speed propeller, retractable landing gear and mirrored Garmin avionics for the student and instructor positions.
• Maloy is developing the aircraft as one component of a wider training system combining aircraft, simulation, curriculum, assessment and Flight Lead software. The company demonstrated a mixed-reality MA-1 simulator alongside the Flight Lead platform when it publicly introduced the aircraft in September 2025.
• The company's certification activity remains under development. Maloy described the programme on August 11 as progressing through "development and certification planning."
• AFM previously reported that Maloy Aircraft unveiled the MA-1 Blue Jay in September 2025 after completing conceptual design earlier that year. AFM subsequently reported that Indiana-based AlphaFlight became launch customer with an order for four aircraft in October 2025.
• AFM's October 2025 report, based on information available at the time, indicated that FAA certification was targeted for 2026 with deliveries beginning in 2029.
