Aircraft Manufacturer Airbus Inaugurates Second A320 FFS in Chile Training Centre

Airbus inaugurated its second A320 full-flight simulator at the Airbus Chile Training Centre (ACTC), located within the Airbus facilities in the Tobalaba Airfield in Santiago.

The 1,700-square-meter facility offers training to Airbus operators in Chile and the Southern Cone and houses full-suite A320 pilot training equipment. Since its inauguration in 2021, the ACTC has trained around 1,000 pilots from Chilean carriers LATAM Airlines, SKY and JetSMART, supporting the operations and ramp-up of A320 Family aircraft in their growing fleet.

Airbus predicts in its Global Services Forecast for Latin America a need for more than 30,000 pilots to be trained over the next two decades in the region. As such doubling training capacities by adding a second simulator located in Chile will support the growing training needs of Airbus’ airline customers.

The A320 Family is the world’s most popular single-aisle aircraft family and the preferred choice among airlines, from the low-cost carriers to new business models, taking benefits of new levels of performance and passenger comfort.

The ACTC is part of the Airbus global flight training network consisting of 20 locations around the world. This extensive and growing global network enables Airbus to offer a complete flight training package, allowing its customers to benefit from its training expertise closer to their home base.

With more than two decades of direct presence in Chile, Airbus is the aerospace market leader, with 62% market share of the country’s commercial aircraft fleet, 11 military aircraft in service, one Earth Observation Satellite and more than 125 helicopters flying in the country.

Aircraft Manufacturer Forecasts Aviation Fleet Growth in Latin America and the Caribbean

The Airbus Global Market Forecast 2023 has unveiled insights into the anticipated growth of the aviation fleet in Latin America and the Caribbean, showcasing a significant surge in aircraft numbers by 2042.

By 2042, the aviation fleet serving Latin America and the Caribbean is forecasted to increase to 2,630 aircraft, nearly doubling from the 1,440 aircraft recorded in early 2020. This remarkable expansion underscores the region’s burgeoning aviation sector and its increasing importance on the global stage.

The growth of the aviation sector in Latin America and the Caribbean is intricately linked to the region’s economic development. As economic indicators forecast robust growth, including an average annual real GDP growth rate of 2.5%, the demand for air travel is expected to surge, further driving the need for an expanded fleet to cater to burgeoning passenger numbers.

Chile emerges as a key player in this fleet expansion, with its projected GDP nearly doubling by 2042. As the country’s economy flourishes, so too does its demand for air travel, necessitating a doubling of the aircraft fleet serving Chile over the next two decades.

Domestic air travel is anticipated to be a primary driver of fleet expansion, with an annual growth rate of 3.8% expected. Single-aisle aircraft are poised to dominate this segment, comprising over 90% of the total fleet as they cater to the increasing demand for domestic connectivity within the region.
