Michigan, USA – Jackson College has partnered with the Flight School of Jackson to launch a new Associate of Applied Science in Occupational Studies pathway, allowing aspiring pilots to earn a college degree alongside their flight training. The collaboration creates a direct academic route from professional pilot certificates to higher education, streamlining the journey for Michigan-based aviation students.
Under the articulation agreement, students can transfer up to 46 credits from completed flight training and written examinations toward Jackson College’s associate degree.
By completing just six additional general education courses, flight students can graduate with a fully accredited associate degree, gaining both academic and professional credentials.
The program recognizes FAA-approved flight certificates earned through the Flight School of Jackson, including Private, Instrument, Commercial, and Instructor ratings, for college credit.
Designed for flexibility, the pathway enables students to earn credit incrementally as they progress through their flight training, accommodating various certification levels and career timelines.
Jamie Vandenburgh, Dean of Workforce, Technical and Professional Education at Jackson College, said the initiative will “help produce more highly skilled, credentialed aviation professionals” in the region.
Amber Collins, Director of Workforce Training, described the partnership as “a win-win for everyone involved,” emphasizing the program’s potential to expand employment and career opportunities for graduates.
