National Flight Training Alliance Appoints Skyfarer Founder Nick Tsang to Board of Directors

September 2, 2026

USA — The National Flight Training Alliance (NFTA) announced the appointment of Nick Tsang, Founder and CEO of Skyfarer, to its Board of Directors.

Tsang joins the board as NFTA advances its work on flight training standards, regulatory modernization, and workforce access. His appointment adds a technology and data perspective drawn from operating one of the country's largest general aviation marketplaces.

"Flight training in this country is delivered by thousands of independent providers, and their collective voice matters more than any single operator's," said Tsang. "I'm honored to join a board working to unify and protect that community, and to bring what we see every day about how prospective pilots search for training to NFTA's policy work."

A Data-Driven View of the Flight Training Pipeline

Skyfarer operates a national aviation marketplace connecting pilots at every level with independent instructors, flight schools, aviation services, and aircraft. The platform serves nearly 14,000 users across all 50 states and generates several hundred flight training inquiries each month, giving Skyfarer a direct view into how prospective pilots discover, evaluate, and begin training.

The company conducts and publishes original research on the flight training market, including a national pilot survey examining how students find training, why disruptions occur, and what causes students to stop. Skyfarer also collaborates with industry practitioners on practical guidance for prospective pilots, including a published resource on choosing the right flight training program.

In 2025, Skyfarer acquired InstructAir, a flight instructor marketplace, expanding its national network of instructors and flight schools. The company has established more than 15 industry partnerships and has been featured in over 20 aviation media outlets, including FLYING, AOPA, AFM, General Aviation News, Aviation Week Network, AIN, and Business Air News. Skyfarer was named to the Founder Institute's FI 50: Fastest Growing Companies of 2026, representing North America and the aviation sector.

Supporting NFTA's Advocacy Work

Tsang has already contributed to NFTA's mission by building digital tools that make the association's policy output more accessible to flight training providers. This includes an interactive intelligence hub for NFTA's Part 141 Modernization Report at part141-report.skyfareracademy.com, which presents the 471-page report and its 20 recommendations by audience, by recommendation, and in a before-and-after view, alongside the full source document.

He also serves on NFTA's AI in Flight Training working group, which is developing industry guidance on the responsible application of artificial intelligence in pilot training.

Beyond the aviation industry, Tsang has worked to raise the visibility of flight training among broader audiences — partnering with Boston University's Questrom School of Business on MBA coursework using Skyfarer as a marketplace case study, and engaging the technology sector on the challenges facing the pilot training pipeline. Skyfarer was featured in GeekWire's Startup Spotlight in August 2026, one of the few times general aviation training has been covered by a mainstream technology publication.

About Nick Tsang

Tsang's aviation background began with flight training in New Zealand in 2012, followed by programs in private pilot training, advanced aviation education, and aviation planning and management, as well as a nine-month airline mentorship program in which he served as group leader. He served eight years with the Hong Kong Air Cadet Corps, first in the officer trainee program and later as a training officer at a university squadron.

Before founding Skyfarer, Tsang spent a decade in the K-12 and higher education markets, working in go-to-market strategy, growth operations, and platform business models. He holds a master's degree in educational management and leadership.
