United Kingdom – Inverness-based flight training organization Highland Aviation’s new owner, Aamer Sher, plans to invest GBP 10 million in the business over the next three years and introduce aviation scholarships for young people in the Scottish Highlands.

Sher acquired control of Highland Aviation in August 2025 after former owner Will Roomes decided to retire. Companies House records identify Sher as holding at least 75% of the company’s shares from August 1, 2025, and as a director from August 20.
Applications for the first scholarship intake are expected to open ahead of 2027. The initial awards will be partly funded by Highland Aviation, with the company seeking additional support from investors and public-sector organizations.
Applicants will not be required to hold existing aviation qualifications. The proposed pathway will support selected candidates in securing prerequisite qualifications before progressing into flight training.
Prospective applicants will be encouraged to volunteer at the school, gain exposure to aircraft and hangar operations, and accompany suitable ferry flights before scholarship places are awarded.
Highland Aviation also plans to develop an aircraft engineering training pathway with colleges in the Highlands and Islands from 2027.
The company currently holds UK CAA approval as a fixed-wing Approved Training Organisation under GBR.ATO.0378, a gyroplane National Approved Training Organisation under UK.ATOG.0001 and a Combined Airworthiness Organisation under UK.CAO.0010. Its activities include pilot training, aircraft maintenance and airport handling.
Highland Aviation lists eight aircraft:
- 3x Piper PA-38 Tomahawks
- 1x Piper PA-28 Warrior II
- 1x Cessna 172S
- 2x AutoGyro aircraft.
Its fixed-wing training portfolio includes the UK Part-FCL LAPL and PPL, night and instrument qualifications, mountain and beach operations, and flight instructor courses.
AFM previously reported that Highland Aviation became the UK’s first Approved Training Organisation for gyroplanes and was the country’s only organization holding that approval when it marked the centenary of the first successful gyroplane flight in 2023.
