Germany - With the commissioning of a new Airbus H145 D3 Flight Training Device (FTD) Level 3, the DRF Academy is expanding its training capacities. The DRF Academy is one of the first organizations to use the new system developed by Reiser Simulation and Training. The simulator is located at the Lufthansa Aviation Training (LAT) site in Frankfurt. For H145 operators, training organisations and pilots, this will create a modern training programme that combines flexibility, realistic exercise scenarios and operational relevance.
"With the investment and commissioning of the new simulator, the DRF Akademie is underlining its claim to provide high-quality training solutions for DRF Luftrettung crews and external customers – together with strong partners and with a clear focus on quality, safety and operational excellence: an important investment in the future," emphasizes Florian Rabe, Managing Director of DRF Akademie, the significance of the event. "With the system, we are able to respond quickly to operational requirements while maintaining the highest standards of training for our customers."
Added value for training and qualification
The simulator is equipped with a state-of-the-art mixed reality system and faithfully replicates the Airbus H145 D3 variant with the latest avionics software version 10. This creates a resilient training environment for procedures, system understanding, and normal, abnormal, and emergency procedures – complemented by immersive scenarios for decision-making and collaboration in the cockpit. The device is designed to receive Multi-Crew Coordination (MCC) approval from the aviation authorities. This allows for dedicated MCC training on the H145 platform, a new feature for this type of training device.
For the DRF Academy, the commissioning of the new simulator is an important investment in expanding its training portfolio. The inauguration of the new simulator marks a strategic step towards more efficient, practical and economical pilot training. The simulator can be used in large parts of H145 training as well as for MCC- and IFR-related training scenarios. Training needs can thus be met more precisely, capacities can be scaled better and programs can be made more efficient. Customers benefit from a close integration of standardised procedures with complex multi-crew scenarios.
Location advantage through Frankfurt
An additional advantage is the integration into the infrastructure of Lufthansa Aviation Training (LAT) in Frankfurt. There, the new FTD Level 3 complements the systems already used for training purposes and creates a modular training environment. The location offers efficient framework conditions, high availability and the opportunity to bundle different qualification and recurrent training courses in one place. LAT is the primary partner of the DRF Academy for the operation of the simulator, it provides the housing and maintenance and operates the simulator. Both partners plan to expand their cooperation in this area in the future.
"With the new H145 Flight Training Device, we are once again bundling state-of-the-art simulation technology, operational expertise and the infrastructure of the LAT location in Frankfurt into a high-performance training offering. The close cooperation with the DRF Academy has been creating optimal conditions for practical and flexible training at the highest level for years," says Matthias Spohr, CEO Lufthansa Aviation Training.
Technology partnership with Reiser
Reiser Simulation and Training, a manufacturer of modern simulation solutions with high technical precision, is behind the project. The device combines a detailed cockpit with contemporary visualization and integration options. For the DRF Academy, this partnership strengthens the quality of training, the ability to innovate and is future-proof – and creates an offer that is geared to the current requirements of helicopter training.
