Faroe Islands – Atlantic Airways Aviation Academy has signed a three-year agreement with the Armed Forces of Malta to deliver AW139 helicopter pilot training. The contract is co-financed through the EU’s Border Management and Visa Instrument and strengthens bilateral cooperation in advanced rotary training between the two island nations.
- The agreement supports the operational readiness of Malta’s AW139 helicopter crews through structured simulator and flight training.
- Training will focus on operations in complex maritime and remote environments, leveraging shared operational insights between Atlantic Airways and the Armed Forces of Malta.
- Atlantic Airways’ AW139 simulator, delivered by Thales, includes:
- Level D FFS with high-definition visuals covering Northern Europe and specific enhanced scenes for the Faroe Islands and select SAR hotspots.
- A six-axis Hexaline motion system and synchronized visuals for ultra-realistic simulation.
- A mixed reality rear-crew trainer enabling coordinated pilot and hoist-operator training for SAR missions, using VR headsets and physical hoist components.
- The AW139 simulator suite is supported under warranty and post-delivery upgrade agreements with Thales.
