Pennsylvania University Launches Professional Pilot Degree with 14-Student Inaugural Cohort in September 2026

Pennsylvania, USA – Moravian University has launched its new aviation programs with an inaugural cohort of 23 students, including 14 Professional Pilot majors who are undertaking flight training through FAA Part 141 flight school flyGATEWAY Aviation Institute.

• The programs began in fall 2026 following Moravian's announcement of the initiative in October 2025.
• Professional Pilot students complete flight instruction through flyGATEWAY, with Queen City Airport in Allentown serving as the primary flight training base and some training also conducted at Lehigh Valley International Airport. flyGATEWAY operates as an FAA Part 141 flight school.
• Moravian's Bachelor of Science in Professional Pilot comprises 120 academic credits, including more than 60 credits of FAA-recognized aviation coursework. The university states that the pathway is structured through Certified Flight Instructor qualification and also prepares students for a Multi-Engine Commercial Certificate.
• Moravian states that academic credit within the Professional Pilot degree aligns with FAA requirements for Institutional Restricted Airline Transport Pilot eligibility.
• At Queen City Airport, flyGATEWAY currently lists six locally based training aircraft: five Piper Pilot 100i single-engine aircraft and one Piper Seminole multi-engine aircraft. The wider flyGATEWAY fleet includes more than 20 Piper Pilot 100i aircraft as well as Piper Seminoles and Cirrus SR20 and SR22 aircraft across its network.
