Hungary – Budapest-based aviation simulation software developer Propair Flight has launched SkyPass Type Rating, a virtual aircraft training platform introduced alongside its Piper Cheyenne III aircraft package for Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 and 2024. The product combines structured theoretical instruction, practical flight exercises and AI-assisted performance assessments, adapting elements of professional pilot training for flight simulation enthusiasts.
- Launched on 26 September 2026, the package includes the simulated Cheyenne III aircraft, a virtual type rating course and 100 SkyPass credits for flight performance evaluations. The company states that the included credits provide sufficient capacity to complete the training and repeat exercises, with additional credits available for further practice.
- The training follows a structured progression beginning with Ground School, incorporating aircraft systems instruction, knowledge questionnaires, flashcards and a final theoretical assessment. Students then progress to practical flight missions addressing aircraft handling, operational procedures, instrument flying and abnormal situations.
- Propair Flight's announcement described approximately 20 hours of practical simulator training, developed using official Cheyenne III documentation. The course is intended to reproduce the general structure of professional aircraft qualification training while reducing theoretical content and adapting practical exercises for Microsoft Flight Simulator.
- During each practical exercise, SkyPass records aircraft flight parameters and operational data. Following completion, the system evaluates the recorded information and generates written AI-assisted feedback identifying procedural deviations, performance issues and areas for improvement. The missions operate independently of Microsoft Flight Simulator's standard mission system.
- Development of the Cheyenne III simulation involved access to actual aircraft and experienced pilots through Hungarian air ambulance operator TrustAir Aviation, which previously operated four Cheyenne III aircraft from Győr. Propair Flight used the reference aircraft to inform its flight dynamics, engine modelling and aircraft systems representation.
- The Cheyenne III and SkyPass are initially distributed through Propair Flight's webshop and ORBX, with the exclusive sales period scheduled to end on 18 October 2026. Wider availability through Microsoft Flight Simulator Marketplace and SimMarket is planned thereafter. Propair Flight intends to extend SkyPass to additional aircraft types.
- The simulated Piper PA-42 Cheyenne III incorporates twin Pratt & Whitney Canada PT6A-41 turboprop engines, alternative analogue and Garmin G1000 cockpit configurations, and passenger and aeromedical transport versions. SkyPass is not an approved aviation training program, and its virtual type rating does not confer a recognised pilot qualification, licence endorsement or regulatory training credit.
