USA – Flight simulation equipment manufacturer Redbird Flight has introduced a Garmin G1000 NXi software emulation and the E001 interchangeable instrument panel for its aviation training devices.
- The G1000 NXi software is scheduled for release on August 17, 2026, while the E001 Enhanced Aircraft panel is planned to become available in early 2027.
- The NXi emulation adds improved graphics and processing speeds together with functions used in technically advanced aircraft training, including:
- Synthetic Vision Technology.
- Horizontal situation indicator mapping on the primary flight display.
- SafeTaxi airport mapping.
- Vertical navigation functions.
- Traffic, alerting and split-screen capabilities.
- The initial software release will support Redbird devices configured as Cessna 172, 182 or 206 aircraft. Compatible devices must use a Redbird G3 panel and run Prepar3D version 5 or later.
- Existing customers whose compatible devices remain under warranty or an active service agreement will be eligible to receive the software as a regular update. Other operators can purchase a one-time software update, while all users must obtain an updated avionics database package.
- Redbird lists three annual database subscription options:
- Essential: USD549.
- Select: USD799.
- Unlimited: USD1,450.
- The E001 panel will incorporate hardware for two G1000 GDU 1054B displays, a GMA 1347 audio panel and controls supporting three analogue standby instruments. Embedded video displays will form part of the hardware architecture.
- The panel will query other hardware installed in the training device to identify which aircraft configurations can be represented accurately. Redbird’s product roadmap also includes panels supporting Garmin GTN and Avidyne IFD avionics.
- Redbird said individual software and hardware components will be modular and backward-compatible with devices dating to the original FMX 1, allowing operators to upgrade existing equipment in stages.
- The company is displaying the NXi software and an E001 prototype at EAA AirVenture Oshkosh alongside an enhanced control yoke for Cirrus SR20 and SR22 simulator configurations.
