Riyadh Air Commits to 28 Additional Boeing 787 Dreamliners- Growing Firm Orders to 67 B787

Saudi Arabia – Riyadh Air has committed to exercise options for 28 additional Boeing 787 Dreamliners, including 20 converted to the larger 787-10 variant, which would increase its firm 787 order total to 67 once all aircraft are finalized.

• Riyadh Air’s original 2023 agreement covered 39 firm 787-9s and options for 33 additional aircraft. Exercising 28 of those options would leave five unexercised.
• The announcement includes a previously unidentified purchase of 11 of the aircraft; once the remaining 17 airplanes are finalised, Riyadh Air's firm 787 order count will reach 67.
• Twenty of the 28 aircraft will be converted to the 787-10. Boeing and Riyadh Air did not separately identify the variant for the remaining eight aircraft.
• Riyadh Air currently operates six Boeing 787-9s and serves six cities. The carrier began receiving its initial production aircraft in June 2026.
• Boeing said the 787-10 will provide approximately 50 more seats than Riyadh Air’s 787-9 configuration. The carrier plans to use the additional passenger and cargo capacity as it works toward serving more than 100 destinations by 2030.
• The two variants share flight deck systems, maintenance procedures and pilot-training requirements, reducing the additional training infrastructure required compared with introducing an unrelated widebody type.
• AFM previously reported that Riyadh Air ordered two CAE Boeing 787 CAE7000XR full flight simulators and one 787 flight training device for a purpose-built facility in Riyadh.
