Denmark – SAS Scandinavian Airlines has placed a firm order with Airbus for 18 A330-900 widebody aircraft as part of its ongoing fleet renewal strategy, with the agreement signed at a ceremony in Copenhagen by SAS CEO Anko van der Werff and Airbus EVP Sales Benoît de Saint-Exupéry.
- The 18 A330neo order will support SAS's international network expansion, enabling the airline to increase capacity on existing high-demand routes globally and introduce new long-haul destinations.
- The A330-900 is powered by Rolls-Royce Trent 7000 engines with a range of up to 8,100 nautical miles, delivering 25% lower fuel burn, CO2 emissions, and operating costs compared to previous-generation competitor aircraft.
- The order creates significant future pilot training requirements: SAS will need A330neo type rating programs, conversion training for pilots transitioning from legacy widebody types, and recurrent training infrastructure to support the 18-aircraft fleet entry over the delivery period.
- The A330 family has won over 1,950 orders from 133 customers worldwide as of May 2026, with the aircraft capable of operating with up to 50% Sustainable Aviation Fuel with a 100% SAF target by 2030.
