April 7, 2026

South Africa – Alt Academy, a Johannesburg-based pilot training group operating under SACAA/ATO 1029, is offering complimentary ground school instruction in response to a SACAA regulatory notice requiring proof of completed knowledge instruction training as a prerequisite for initial subject examinations.

  • The South African Civil Aviation Authority (SACAA) has issued a Notice of Compliance with SA-CATS 61.01.10(4)(a)(iii), requiring that candidates sitting an initial subject examination provide a certificate of completed knowledge instruction training, signed by the Chief Ground Instructor (CGI) or their designee at a Part 141 approved training organisation.
  • Alt Academy, as a Part 141 ATO, is positioned to deliver the required ground school instruction and issue the compliant certificate signed by its CGI, satisfying the regulatory requirement for candidates.
  • The complimentary ground school offering is available on a limited-seat basis, with terms and conditions applying.

Last week, AFM, through its Pilot Training Leadership Interview Series, spoke with Ryan van Wijk, CEO at Alt Academy. .
