South Africa's 43 Air School Partners with Boeing to Deliver Competency-Based Training and Assessment

May 11, 2026

South Africa – 43 Air School, the largest integrated flight training organisation in Africa, has announced a collaboration with Boeing to implement Competency-Based Training and Assessment (CBTA) across all student training programs, becoming the first flight school in Africa to adopt the Boeing CBTA solution.

  • CBTA represents a fundamental shift from traditional hour-based pilot training to a competency-focused model that evaluates what a pilot can demonstrate in terms of skills, real-world performance, and measurable competency before advancing through each training phase.
  • 43 Air School's senior instructors have completed specialized CBTA training directly with Boeing, equipping them with the expertise to deliver the program at the highest level. The system is now fully integrated across all training programs.
  • The adoption positions 43 Air School as a continental first, setting a new benchmark for aviation training in Africa and aligning the school with global best practices increasingly adopted by leading airlines and aviation authorities worldwide.
