India – The Indian Air Force (IAF) and Indian Institute of Technology Bombay (IIT Bombay) have signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) establishing a framework toward a Master’s degree program for flight test crew, covering test pilots and flight test engineers. The initiative will connect the Air Force Test Pilot School (AFTPS) at the IAF’s Aircraft and Systems Testing Establishment (ASTE) with IIT Bombay’s academic and research capabilities.

The MoA was signed on September 2, 2026, with the collaboration structured around AFTPS and IIT Bombay delivering academic, technological and research elements supporting the proposed postgraduate qualification.
The proposed Master’s degree will cover both test pilots and flight test engineers, adding an academic pathway around personnel involved in the testing and evaluation of military aircraft, systems and aerospace technologies.
IIT Bombay said the collaboration is intended to support India’s military flight-testing capability and increase domestic technical expertise as part of the country’s wider Atmanirbharta, or self-reliance, strategy in military aerospace.
