Spanish Flight Training Group FlyBy Announces New Base in Madrid with Plans to Grow to 500 Student Capacity
FlyBy, a flight training group headquartered in Burgos, Spain, has shared that together with Ocaña Airport’s new owner – ELA AVIACION, S.L. it is planning to develop the largest flight training base in Europe located in south Madrid.
Ocaña Airport, located 60 km (55 min) south of Madrid will see the development of an aviation training base for more than 500 students.
Accommodation on-site will be provided with a new concept in coliving called Aerea House by ColivINN, one of the largest coliving operators worldwide and part of the larger ELA Aviacion Group.
Operations will start in September 2024 with 50 pilot students growing to 150 by January 2025.
Long term plans include reaching over 300 pilots in 3 years, plus additional training for Aircraft Engineers and Air Traffic Controllers totaling 500 students on site.
FlyBy has over 300 students from 112 different nationalities and a fleet of 45 airplanes and 3 simulators along is 3 bases in Ocaña, Logroño and main base in Burgos, Spain.
Ocaña airport will also develop FBO services for the business jet industry.
Ocaña airport currently has 2 runways and 4 hangars with plans to develop taxiways and additional runways as required. Plans to expand technical capabilities to include Night VFR and IFR flights are targeted to be completed before end of 2025.
