Strong Passenger Demand and Early Deliveries Drive European Airline Profit Surge in 2025

November 4, 2025

Ireland - Ryanair has reported a 40% year-over-year increase in pre-tax profit for the first half of its financial year, driven by higher airfares, stronger passenger demand, and earlier-than-expected Boeing aircraft deliveries that enabled additional capacity. The airline recorded a €2.9 billion pre-tax profit for the six months, underscoring a robust rebound in Europe’s low-cost travel market.

  • Ryanair carried 119 million passengers, up 3% year-on-year, after improved aircraft deliveries from Boeing allowed it to increase seat availability during the busy travel months.
  • Ryanair CEO Michael O’Leary announced that Boeing has agreed to deliver 25 Boeing 737 MAX 8-200 aircraft by October 2025 (rather than the previously scheduled spring 2026).
  • The airline benefited from average airfares rising 13% to €58 (£50.90), particularly during the Easter and early summer periods, recovering from a 7% fare decline seen in the same quarter of the previous year.
  • Ryanair’s fleet growth had been impacted by Boeing’s slower production output following industrial strikes in late 2024. However, the arrival of new aircraft ahead of schedule has enabled Ryanair to boost capacity for the October and Christmas travel seasons.
  • The carrier now expects to fly 207 million passengers for the full year—3% more than in 2024 and higher than its earlier projection—supported by steady demand across leisure and business segments.
  • Airfare increases are expected to stabilize in the second half of the year, reflecting a high pricing base established in 2024.
