Syria – Syrian President Ahmad al-Sharaa has announced plans to order eight Airbus aircraft, disclosed during French President Emmanuel Macron's visit to Syria on 6 July 2026, with the aircraft indicated for quick delivery.

  • Damascus International Airport surpassed 148,000 passengers in May 2026, according to the Qatari Civil Aviation Authority, with 12 airlines now operating to and from Syria, including Qatar Airways, Turkish Airlines, Emirates, Etihad, and flynas.
  • Syrian Airlines (SyriaAir), the government-owned national carrier, is set to benefit from Qatari investment to expand operations.
  • The European Union suspended several restrictive measures related to Syria in February 2025, enabling Airbus contracts and flight operations to Europe — a precondition for the aircraft order now announced.
  • On another note, AFM previously reported on flynas's launch of flynas Syria, a joint-venture carrier established to support rebuilding Syria's civil aviation sector, as well as Jordan Airline Training & Simulation (JATS) welcoming Syrian operators Fly Cham and Syrian Air for crew training at its Amman-based simulator center.
