Virginia, USA – Star Flight Training, a flight training organisation based at Roanoke Regional Airport (KROA), has expanded its fleet with four IFR-equipped Tecnam P-Mentor aircraft, bringing a new generation of training technology to its Virginia operations and strengthening its capacity to serve both career-track and recreational pilot students.
- The four Tecnam P-Mentors are IFR-equipped, with each aircraft featuring an advanced avionics suite — including a 10" Garmin G3X display, G5 standby instrument, full Garmin autopilot, and GPS and NAV/COM instrument stack — providing students with technology that closely mirrors what they will encounter in professional aviation careers.
- Star Flight Training recorded approximately 5,000 hours of flight instruction in the prior year, with 50 students completing check rides. The P-Mentor fleet is designed to serve students across Private Pilot, Instrument, Commercial, and CFI/CFII certification pathways.
- The P-Mentor's Rotax 912 engine platform delivers a fuel burn of approximately half that of many traditional training aircraft, reducing per-student training costs while enabling longer training missions and sustained daily operations at the Roanoke Class C facility.
- The P-Mentor fleet was acquired through LifeStyle Aviation, one of North America's leading distributors of Tecnam aircraft, which served as the transaction partner for the four-aircraft delivery to Roanoke.
- The acquisition reflects a broader trend across US Part 61 and Part 141 flight schools towards fourth-generation, fuel-efficient light sport and training aircraft as operators seek to reduce operating costs, lower environmental impact, and expose students to glass cockpit technology from early training stages.
Statements
- "The aircraft combines excellent fuel efficiency, modern avionics, and outstanding handling characteristics, making it an ideal platform for teaching students from their first flight through advanced training. It burns roughly half the fuel of many traditional training aircraft, which allows us to operate for extended training missions throughout the day while maintaining strong operational efficiency," said Richard Donnelly, Director of Operations at Star Flight Training.
- "Here at Star Flight Training, we are committed to providing the highest quality flight training with the best equipment available. The Tecnam P-Mentor delivers a premier training experience that our students truly appreciate," said Matt Hunt, Office Manager at Star Flight Training.
- "Flight schools today need aircraft that are efficient, durable, and designed specifically for training. The Tecnam P-Mentor delivers exactly that. We're proud to partner with Star Flight Training as they build a modern fleet that will help train the next generation of pilots," said John Armstrong, Founder and CEO of LifeStyle Aviation.
- "We are thrilled to welcome Star Flight Training to the growing family of flight schools standardizing on the P-Mentor. The US market continues to recognize the unmatched economic and educational value of our platforms. By integrating the P-Mentor into their fleet, Star Flight Training is providing its cadets with the safest, most technologically advanced aircraft available today, ensuring a seamless transition into their professional airline careers," said Walter Da Costa, Chief Sales Officer at Tecnam.
