Europe – Tecnam has highlighted the significance of the EASA CS-23 Amendment 6 Type Certificate awarded to its new P2008JC NG training aircraft, marking the platform's transition from the previous CS-VLA (Very Light Aircraft) category to the highest safety tier for General Aviation aircraft under EASA certification standards.
- The CS-23 Amendment 6 certification was formally handed over by EASA Executive Director Florian Guillermet at AERO Friedrichshafen 2026 in a historic ceremony, placing the P2008JC NG in the same certification category as larger, more complex general aviation aircraft.
- The Amendment 6 standards drastically enhance the aircraft's safety characteristics, specifically at very low speeds — the most critical flight envelope for ab initio training — while also benefiting private pilots operating in the same speed regime.
- The transition from CS-VLA to CS-23 represents a significant regulatory and engineering achievement, requiring the aircraft to meet more stringent airworthiness requirements across structural, systems, and flight handling criteria.
- The P2008JC NG was one of the standout platforms at AERO Friedrichshafen 2026, where Tecnam secured 86 confirmed aircraft orders from European ATOs and operators, including 10 P2008JC NGs ordered by Poland's Smart Aviation. The aircraft complements Tecnam's broader training fleet including the P-Mentor, P2006T NG, and P2010 TDI platforms.
- Based on its industry data, Tecnam states that flight schools operating its single- and twin-engine fleet can save up to 10 tonnes of CO2 emissions per student completing a Commercial Pilot Licence — a 60% reduction compared to a fleet using 100LL fuel across 155 flight hours including 30 hours in a twin.
