Thrust Flight Opens Sixth US Location at Newport News with Hampton University Partnership

Virginia, USA – US flight training provider Thrust Flight has hosted an open house at its new Newport News campus at Newport News/Williamsburg International Airport, marking the operational launch of its sixth location and first campus on the US East Coast. The facility supports the company’s new flight-training partnership with Hampton University while also offering Thrust Flight programs directly to the public.

• Hampton University’s wider aviation enrollment reached 176 students for the Fall 2026 semester, up from 143 in 2025, 73 in 2024 and 19 in 2023. The university identifies the Thrust Flight partnership as a central part of its expanded professional flight education capability.
• Flight operations are based at the One Lear Drive hangar at Newport News/Williamsburg International Airport, approximately 15 minutes from Hampton University’s campus. Hampton students complete their academic coursework through the university while practical flight training is delivered by Thrust Flight under its FAA Part 141 certificate.
• Thrust Flight provides aircraft, certificated flight instructors, scheduling, flight-training records and day-to-day training operations for Hampton’s Bachelor of Science in Flight Education. The flight-training sequence covers Private Pilot, Instrument, Commercial, Multi-Engine and Flight Instructor qualifications.
• The partnership is structured in two stages. Thrust Flight initially operates as Hampton University’s authorized training provider and will subsequently support the university in pursuing its own FAA Part 141 Pilot School certificate, including course-outline development and support through the FAA certification process.
• The Virginia campus also offers Thrust Flight’s Zero Time to Airline program to non-Hampton students, with monthly class starts. The site uses current-generation Piper Archer TX aircraft for single-engine training and Piper Seminoles for multi-engine training, equipped with Garmin G1000 avionics and air conditioning.
• Thrust Flight also plans to offer Aircraft & Powerplant mechanic training from the Virginia location through its FAA Part 147 program, extending the campus beyond pilot training into maintenance workforce development.
