France – Aviation training and FSTD specialist Train-By-Wire (TBW) has supported Simaero Engineering in upgrading SIM S.A.S. Airbus A330/A340 Full Flight Simulator to enable Upset Prevention and Recovery Training (UPRT), providing technical, operational and regulatory support through the modification and validation process.
- TBW said its latest scope covered UPRT implementation and qualification strategy, functionality assessment, aerodynamic model tuning, Qualification Test Guide development and validation, tablet integration, buffet tuning, Statements of Compliance and qualification documentation.
- The company also provided the Subject Matter Expert pilot evaluation against EASA CS-FSTD(A) Issue 2, AMC10 FSTD(A).300(e), supporting the assessment of whether the simulator's aerodynamic modelling and behaviour were suitable for the required training conditions.
- Validation flying included testing at the boundaries of the simulator's Flight Training Envelope and, where required for validation, beyond those boundaries. TBW said the process was used to identify modelling and tuning requirements, establish operational considerations and training limitations, and support the qualification documentation presented to the regulatory authority.
- SIM S.A.S., formally SIM Services and Aviation Solutions, is the French operating company associated with Simaero's Roissy-en-France training activity.
- AFM previously reported that Simaero's Paris CDG operation currently lists 13 Full Flight Simulators, including two A330 and two A340 devices, alongside Airbus A320 and A350, ATR 72, Boeing 737, 757 and 767 simulator capacity. The group also operates additional training centers in South Africa, China and India.
- The convertible A330/A340 FSTD was manufactured by Thomson-CSF in 1992, making the device approximately 34 years old in 2026. TBW had previously participated in acceptance testing on the same simulator when Simaero integrated the UPRight instructor operating station tool for UPRT-related training applications.
