France– Elixir Aircraft, in collaboration with Turbotech, Safran, and Air Liquide, has successfully conducted the first ground test of the BeautHyFuel hydrogen turbine, marking a significant milestone in hydrogen-powered aviation. The demonstration was carried out at Air Liquide’s Grenoble Technologies Campus, showcasing a fully integrated propulsion system.
The BeautHyFuel project aims to advance hydrogen turbine technology for aviation, integrating Turbotech’s turbine with Air Liquide’s cryogenic liquid hydrogen storage system operating at –250°C.The ground test replicated the functions of a complete aircraft propulsion system, demonstrating end-to-end feasibility. The project entered its operational phase in early 2024, with initial power supply tests preceding the successful ground demonstration.Further details on the project will be shared at the Paris Air Show.
