UAE-based ActionFlight Aviation Receives GCAA ATO Approval to Launch Region-First Advanced UPRT

17th Dec 2025

United Arab Emirates – ActionFlight Aviation, through its training division Vertical Advanced Flight Training (Vertical UPRT), has received Approved Training Organisation (ATO) approval from the UAE General Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA), becoming the first provider in the UAE and the wider MENA/GCC region to offer Advanced Upset Prevention and Recovery Training (AUPRT).

  • The GCAA-issued ATO approval positions Vertical UPRT as the first dedicated Advanced UPRT provider in the region, directly supporting regulatory mandates and regional flight safety initiatives.

  • Advanced UPRT addresses Loss of Control In-Flight (LOC-I), which remains the leading cause of fatal aviation accidents globally, by training pilots to recognise, prevent, and recover from aircraft upsets.

  • Vertical UPRT delivers a full Advanced AUPRT syllabus in the Extra 330, operated by senior instructors with backgrounds spanning airline operations, general aviation, advanced UPRT, and examiner roles.

  • The three-day program includes:

    • Dedicated ground school

    • Aerodynamics and aircraft performance refreshers

    • Scenario-based airborne upset recovery training

  • The course is delivered under a non-jeopardy, competency-based framework, with no pass/fail outcome and no type rating requirement, focusing instead on structured recovery techniques and decision-making.

  • Training is conducted in Ras Al Khaimah, offering predictable weather, uncongested airspace, and reduced cost and time compared with overseas UPRT options.

  • The syllabus follows the mandated requirements of CAR-FCL-745(a) and is now open to airlines, business jet and corporate operators, charter pilots, private owner-operators, and training organisations across the GCC and Middle East.

Statements

  • “We are very pleased and privileged to be at the forefront of this critical advanced flight safety training,” said Captain Wayne Jack, Founder & CEO of Vertical UPRT and Senior Instructor / Examiner.

  • “Our mission is to equip pilots with the skills and confidence required to prevent loss of control events before they escalate, while providing world-class training locally without the cost and disruption of overseas travel,” he added.
