UAE – Advanced Upset Prevention and Recovery Training (AUPRT) provider VERTICAL Advanced Flight Training, part of ActionFlight Aviation, has conducted a technical briefing for inspectors from the UAE General Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) at its Dubai headquarters. The engagement focused on the implementation and effectiveness of Advanced UPRT, particularly the preparation of lower-experience pilots entering airline operations and the importance of training standards beyond minimum regulatory compliance.
- Inspectors from four GCAA functions participated in the briefing: Flight Operations, Approved Training Organisations (ATO), Licensing and Airworthiness. Discussions examined the origins and regulatory intent of Advanced UPRT requirements, lessons from the European Union Aviation Safety Agency's (EASA) implementation and changes in airline pilot recruitment and training pathways.
- VERTICAL highlighted the importance of providing meaningful all-attitude flight exposure, selecting aircraft with appropriate handling capabilities and safety margins, and maintaining consistent instructor qualifications and standardisation. The discussions also addressed how practical upset recognition and recovery skills can be transferred into airline operations.
- The company emphasised the role of Advanced UPRT in preparing pilots to prevent, recognise and recover from Loss of Control In-Flight (LOC-I) situations, particularly as training providers accommodate pilots entering airline operations with varying levels of flight experience.
- AFM previously reported that ActionFlight Aviation, through its VERTICAL Advanced Flight Training division, received GCAA Approved Training Organisation certification in December 2025, enabling it to deliver Advanced UPRT from Ras Al Khaimah International Airport.
- The briefing addressed CAR-FCL.745.A requirements governing Advanced UPRT and instructor qualification standards under CAR-FCL.915(e). VERTICAL's existing three-day training course incorporates five hours of ground instruction and three hours of airborne scenario-based training using Extra 330LT aerobatic aircraft, exposing pilots to unusual attitudes, changing aircraft energy states and recovery techniques in actual flight conditions.
