University of Dubuque Selects Entrol Cabri G2 AATD for 2027 Installation

Iowa, USA – The University of Dubuque has selected an Entrol Cabri G2 Advanced Aviation Training Device (AATD) for its rotor-wing program, with installation scheduled for 2027. The simulator will support multiple stages of helicopter training and replicate the Guimbal Cabri G2 aircraft already used by the university.

• The agreement was formalized in May 2026. Entrol said the device will be integrated into Private Pilot, Instrument, Commercial, CFI and CFII training.
• The simulator will reproduce the Cabri G2 cockpit and incorporate a cylindrical visual system using three projectors, a database covering 10 US airports and an integrated vibration system. A remote Instructor Operator Station will allow instructors to change weather conditions, introduce failures, pause scenarios and repeat training exercises.
• Training applications will include instrument and emergency procedures, scenario-based exercises, Crew Resource Management, instructor standardization and maintaining student progression during periods when weather or aircraft availability restricts flying.
• The University of Dubuque currently operates two Guimbal Cabri G2 helicopters and also uses virtual-reality training devices for rotor-wing training. Its helicopter program includes private, instrument, commercial and flight instructor qualifications, as well as advanced turbine training using the Bell 206 JetRanger.
• The simulator investment coincides with an expansion of the university's helicopter training pathway. From Fall 2026, UD is offering a two-year Associate of Applied Science in Flight Operations – Professional Aeronautics (Rotary Wing), while its wider aviation facilities are also being expanded with additional hangar, ramp and learning-centre capacity.
• The university said in May 2026 that nearly 100 helicopter pilots had graduated from its program since 2018. Its helicopter training operation began in 2017.
• AFM previously reported in July 2026 that the University of Dubuque had also selected an ALSIM Airliner and Airliner Touch for fixed-wing Crew Resource Management and airline-transition training, indicating parallel investment across both its airplane and rotor-wing simulation capabilities.
