Michigan, USA – Western Michigan University (WMU) College of Aviation has secured USD 819,000 in new federal funding to expand aviation workforce development, targeting maintenance technician training, simulation capability and uncrewed systems education amid sustained global demand for aviation professionals.

  • The federal appropriations funding will support aviation workforce training infrastructure at WMU’s College of Aviation in Kalamazoo.
  • Investment will fund acquisition of:Advanced simulation software.Maintenance training simulators.Cockpit electronic trainers.Equipment for the uncrewed aerial systems (UAS) operations certificate program.

  • The college recently upgraded to a fleet of Cirrus TRAC20 G7 aircraft, reinforcing modernization of its primary flight training infrastructure.
  • Curriculum development initiatives include stackable credentials such as FAA dispatcher certification, UAS training and aviation supply chain education.
