US University Approves Contract with Pilot Training Organisation for New Flight Training Program
United States based Texas Woman’s University (TWU) has approved a contract with Texas based flight training group U.S. Aviation Group LLC, marking the launch of its new flight training program in the fall of 2024. The agreement enables the university to collaborate with the U.S. Aviation Academy, based at Denton Enterprise Airport.
“We’re so excited to partner with TWU, our home town university.” shared Justin Sykes, CFO at US Aviation Academy.
The announcement was met with applause from regents, students, and faculty, celebrating both the new program and a historic $15 million donation from the Doswell Foundation, which founded the Doswell School of Aeronautical Sciences.
Chancellor Carine Feyten highlighted the center’s role in increasing opportunities for women and women of color in aviation, addressing a crucial industry need as the U.S. anticipates requiring 30,000 new commercial pilots by 2030.
J. Clint Grant, director of TWU’s aeronautical school, emphasized the advantages of partnering with U.S. Aviation, noting their location, certification, and self-examining authority. “The advantages of U.S. Aviation are pretty obvious,” Grant said. “We’re really pleased that they were awarded the contract. They’re already located at the Denton airport, which saves a lot of time and effort. They hold a 141 air agency certificate, which is the rule under the Federal Aviation Regulations that we have to have to operate.”
The program, set to commence in fall 2024, will feature 30 flight slots in its inaugural class with an estimated annual cost of $1.3 million. TWU will handle ground and classroom training while U.S. Aviation conducts flight training. Additionally, TWU-branded aircraft will be a visual hallmark of the program.
The regents’ vote reflects unanimous support and enthusiasm for the partnership, anticipating significant benefits for the university and the local community. Regent Bernadette Coleman praised the development, emphasizing the convenience for students and the local impact.
