US University Flight School Graduates 8 Air Force JROTC Cadets in 2026

Arkansas, USA – The University of Central Arkansas (UCA) Aviation Academy has graduated all eight cadets assigned to its 2026 U.S. Air Force Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps Flight Academy programme, with each participant earning a Private Pilot Certificate and college credit. UCA stated that it was the only one of seven 2026 host universities to achieve a 100% cadet completion rate, marking its second consecutive year with full completion and demonstrating its ability to deliver an accelerated private-pilot syllabus within the Air Force's eight-week summer training window.

• Eight cadets completed the 2026 programme at UCA, supported by four primary flight instructors. The cohort trained during an approximately eight-week period beginning in June, with the graduation ceremony held on August 6 at the Bill Cope Memorial Hangar at Conway Regional Airport at Cantrell Field.
• Each participant earned a Private Pilot Certificate and college credit through the programme. The Air Force Flight Academy is structured as an intensive summer course at partner universities, with the Air Force noting that private-pilot training that would normally span one or two university semesters is compressed into approximately eight weeks.
• The AFJROTC Flight Academy was established in 2018. Air Education and Training Command states that cadets are selected competitively and attend approximately eight weeks of private-pilot training at partner universities, with the scholarship covering costs including tuition, accommodation, meals, textbooks, travel and required medical examinations. The programme does not create a military service obligation.
• More than 1,050 AFJROTC cadets had earned Private Pilot Certificates through the Flight Academy by 2025, according to Air Education and Training Command. The first 2018 cohort comprised 120 cadets training across six universities.
• UCA Aviation Academy launched in March 2024 and offers new open-enrollment classes every three months. Its training portfolio covers Private Pilot, Instrument Rating, Commercial Pilot, Multi-Engine and instructor qualifications, with flight instruction delivered through Central Flying Academy under its FAA Part 141-approved programmes.
• UCA reported in June 2026 that its training operation used three Tecnam P-Mentor aircraft and one Cessna 172, supported by eight instructors.
• The academy's infrastructure expanded in August 2025 with the opening of the Bill Cope Memorial Hangar at Conway Regional Airport. Arkansas provided $750,000 toward the hangar buildout, two flight simulators and other equipment; UCA had separately issued a procurement for two Advanced Aviation Training Device-class simulators.
• UCA's standard civilian programme has also expanded beyond the AFJROTC activity. The academy had served 55 students by August 2025 and previously stated that it expected enrolment to reach approximately 100 students once the programme completed a full two-year cycle, with 15 students planned for each of three annual Private Pilot cohorts.
