October 28, 2025

USA – Utah State University (USU) is repositioning its aviation programme as a leading institution for aspiring airline pilots, with significant upgrades to its training infrastructure including a Boeing 737‑type simulator to enhance student readiness for commercial operations.

  • The university’s Aviation Technology – Professional Pilot programme, under the S.J. & Jessie E. Quinney College of Agriculture & Natural Resources, offers both fixed‑wing and rotary‑wing emphases, with students accruing approximately 250‑300 hours of flight time.
  • USU recently activated a high‑fidelity Boeing 737 cockpit simulator featuring 4K wraparound screens, realistic controls and training stations for take‑offs, landings and navigation in an immersive environment.
  • The programme also includes a second, less‑advanced jet simulator, instrument navigation training systems and an air‑traffic control simulation station — giving students broad exposure to commercial aviation workflows and roles
  • Utah State University is part of the Horizon Air Pilot Development Program and is also a recipient of FAA training grants - see the 2022 announcement here
  • The University operates two flight training bases from which it offers both fixed wing and rotor pilot training courses - see the 2024 announcement here
