West Africa to Gain Its First Boeing 737 Simulator by Mid-2026

November 14, 2025

Togo – ASKY Airlines, the pan-African carrier based in Lomé, has begun construction of its first Boeing 737 flight simulator facility, which is scheduled to enter operation by June 2026. The project marks a major advancement for West Africa’s pilot-training capability, enabling ASKY to train, certify, and conduct recurrent proficiency checks for its Boeing 737 crews locally for the first time.

  • The initiative is being developed in partnership with ANAC-Togo, which is providing technical oversight and regulatory support to ensure the facility meets international training standards.
  • The installation aligns with Togo’s ambition to position Lomé as a regional aviation hub and supports the wider strategic network of Ethiopian Airlines, ASKY’s main shareholder and long-term operational partner.

Statement

  • “This simulator is essential not only for training our own pilots but also for regional airlines that still have to travel abroad to train their crews. It will be the first of its kind in West Africa,” said ASKY CEO Esayas Woldemariam Hailu.
