Global – European aircraft manufacturer Airbus has reported its financial and operational results for the first nine months of 2026, maintaining its full-year commercial aircraft delivery target and planned production increases across its narrowbody and widebody programs. The company's growing aircraft order backlog and manufacturing expansion support the longer-term outlook for airline fleet growth, with corresponding requirements for Airbus type rating, recurrent pilot training and simulator capacity.

  • Airbus delivered 547 commercial aircraft to customers during January–September 2026, an increase of approximately 8% compared with 507 aircraft during the corresponding period in 2025. Deliveries comprised:
    • 68 Airbus A220 aircraft
    • 428 Airbus A320 Family aircraft
    • 13 Airbus A330 aircraft
    • 38 Airbus A350 aircraft
  • Gross commercial aircraft orders reached 1,174 during the nine-month period, compared with 610 in 2025. After cancellations, net orders totalled 1,105 aircraft, more than double the 514 recorded during the same period last year. Airbus's commercial aircraft backlog reached 9,310 aircraft at September 30, 2026.
  • Airbus maintained its full-year guidance of approximately 870 commercial aircraft deliveries in 2026. Having delivered 547 aircraft through September, the manufacturer would need to hand over a further 323 aircraft during the final quarter, equivalent to an average of approximately 108 aircraft per month, to meet the target. The company attributed its inventory accumulation partly to preparations for a delivery schedule weighted towards the end of the year.
  • The manufacturer reaffirmed its production targets across its commercial aircraft programs:
    • A320 Family: 70–75 aircraft per month by the end of 2027, stabilising at 75 thereafter.
    • A220: 13 aircraft per month in 2028.
    • A350: 12 aircraft per month in 2028.
    • A330: five aircraft per month in 2029.
  • Airbus Helicopters delivered 226 aircraft during the first nine months of 2026, compared with 218 during the same period in 2025. Net helicopter orders reached 311 aircraft, while the division's order backlog stood at 1,122 helicopters at the end of September, supporting future demand for rotary-wing pilot and maintenance training.
  • AFM previously reported that Airbus is targeting more than 1,100 annual commercial aircraft deliveries by 2029, following the delivery of 351 aircraft during the first half of 2026. The earlier report also highlighted the manufacturer's expansion of training infrastructure, including its Flight Operations & Training Skywise Campus in Toulouse, designed to accommodate approximately 9,000 trainees annually and up to 12 full flight simulators.
