Canadian College to Offer New Aviation Business Diploma in Partnership with a Flight School

Beginning in September 2022, Aurora College will be offering a new Aviation Business Diploma, in partnership with the Terry Harrold School of Aviation (THSA) in Fort Smith. The two-year program will allow students to achieve both a Diploma from the College and their Private and Commercial Pilot Licences from the THSA.

The combined program is designed to both help address the pilot shortage in the northern aviation industry and to complement technical flying skills with business knowledge and skills that can better position graduates for employment and entrepreneurial opportunities in the North. It will prepare graduates for employment in business and government positions in northern aviation.

Aurora College will continue to work with industry partners to develop, adjust and improve programming to meet the changing needs of industry, the northern labour market and northern residents.

“The Aviation Business Diploma is an excellent example of the types of partnerships that will help us develop new programs that will support the transformation of Aurora College into a polytechnic university. We are excited to be working with the Terry Harrold School of Aviation and look forward to developing additional partnerships with other industry and government organizations,” said Dr. Glenda Vardy Dell, President, Aurora College.

“Northwestern Air Lease Ltd has 57 years of offering flight services in Canada’s north. We launched the aviation program and flight school in 2019 to attract individuals residing in the north, and others, to find a well-rewarded career in aviation. We are pleased to align ourselves with Aurora College to better serve their students and offer a significant program.  Aurora College offers the necessary help and support to provide a pathway to a commercial pilot licence and a solid aviation business foundation,” said James M. Heidema, COO, Northwestern Air Lease Ltd, and Terry Harrold School of Aviation.
