Central American Airline Contracts MPS for B737 MAX FTD Simulator

19th Apr 2023

MPS has been awarded a contract by Copa Airlines for a B737 MAX FTD FAA level 5 with collimated visual with the purchase option of one additional FTD. The simulator on order is expected to be installed Q4 of 2023 at Copa’s training center located in Panama City, Panama. This MPS FTD will be utilized by Copa for airline MAX training.

Copa’s current fleet includes 20 737MAX aircraft and plans to close 2023 with 32 in its fleet. The airline has placed emphasis on pilot training and education beyond the minimum requirements established by authorities to ensure the highest levels of safety.

“At MPS we use smart design and technology to allow for more and better training at lower costs. We are looking forward to providing the Copa team with these benefits in their MAX program,” said MPS Chief Executive Officer Philip Adrian. “This device will truly allow for greater flexibility in training so that Copa can continue to serve the Americas from their Central America location at the highest standards.”

Copa Airlines, the flag carrier of Panama, celebrated its 75th anniversary in 2022 and has been awarded multiple times for being the most punctual airline in Latin America and in the world by Cirium and OAG. The Airline currently offers service to 80destinations in 32 countries.

“I am pleased to announce that Copa Airlines has acquired a state-of-the-art Flight Training Device (FTD) for our Boeing 737 MAX fleet. This advanced technology will provide our pilots with the necessary training to operate the 737 MAX safely and efficiently. Copa continues to lead the way, as we’ve proved and seen from previous investments that FTD’s are cost-effective and efficient solutions for our training needs. This FTD offers high-fidelity simulation capabilities and will allow our pilots to practice a wide range of scenarios and procedures in a realistic and immersive environment. At Copa Airlines, safety is our top priority, and we are committed to ensuring that our pilots are equipped with the best training tools available. With this new FTD of MPS, we will be able to expand our training capacity here in Panama and provide our pilots with even more comprehensive and effective training, which will ultimately enhance the safety and reliability of our operations,” declared Captain Bolivar Dominguez, Copa Vice President of Flight Operations.
