Electric Training Aircraft Manufacturer Smartflyer and Propulsion Provider H55 Join Forces on Hybrid-Electric Development
Switzerland – Smartflyer AG, an innovative Swiss aircraft manufacturer, and H55 SA, a leading provider of certified electric propulsion systems, have signed a strategic partnership during the Electrifly-in at Bern Airport. Under the agreement, H55 will supply advanced battery systems for Smartflyer’s hybrid-electric SF-1 demonstrator aircraft, which is scheduled to fly in 2026.

H55’s battery system, the first in the world expected to receive EASA certification, will power Smartflyer’s SF-1, a hybrid-electric aircraft designed to combine the efficiency of electric propulsion with extended range capability.

The latest generation of H55 batteries exceeds original capacity expectations, offering Smartflyer improved performance and operational flexibility.

The collaboration will also enable integration of H55’s technology into Smartflyer’s modular battery nose module currently under development.

The signing ceremony was attended by Smartflyer founder and CEO Rolf Stuber and H55 representatives, with both companies highlighting the partnership as a milestone in advancing sustainable aviation.

The first flight of the SF-1 demonstrator in 2026 will represent a major industry step toward hybrid-electric aircraft adoption.
