California, USA – US flight training provider Flex Air has reaffirmed its position as a launch partner for Bye Aerospace's eFlyer 2, a two-seat all-electric training aircraft being developed for the flight school market. The announcement follows the aircraft's first flight in September 2026 and reflects Flex Air's plans to incorporate electric propulsion into its pilot training operations.

  • Bye Aerospace completed the eFlyer 2's first flight on September 17, 2026, at Centennial Airport near Denver, Colorado. The six-minute flight marked the beginning of the aircraft's flight test program as the manufacturer progresses towards FAA type certification and customer deliveries.
  • Bye Aerospace projects that the eFlyer 2 could reduce operating costs by up to 80% compared with conventional piston-engine training aircraft, primarily through lower energy and maintenance requirements.
  • Flex Air's participation positions the school among the prospective early operators of the aircraft. The company has not disclosed the number of eFlyer 2 aircraft it intends to introduce, its delivery schedule or the training locations where the aircraft will be deployed.
  • The eFlyer 2 is being developed for initial and advanced flight training, including private, instrument and commercial pilot instruction. Its proposed operating economics could support flight schools seeking to reduce aircraft operating expenditure, although actual training applications will depend on certification, demonstrated endurance and charging infrastructure.
  • AFM previously reported that Bye Aerospace identified Flex Air as an eFlyer customer in June 2026, when the manufacturer reported an orderbook exceeding 1,000 aircraft across its two-seat eFlyer 2 and four-seat eFlyer 4 programs.
  • The eFlyer 2 features a 125 kW (167 hp) electric powerplant, approximately 90 kWh of battery capacity and Garmin G500 TXi avionics. Bye Aerospace targets flight endurance exceeding two hours and a recharge time of less than 30 minutes, with the aircraft being developed under FAA 14 CFR Part 23 certification requirements.
