French Airport to Invest in Electric Charging Station and 19 Hectar Photovoltaic Park to Support Electric Training Aircraft Operations

01st Mar 2024

Mermoz Academy, a flight school based at Tours airport in France, currently operates 2 two-seater electric planes from Pipistrel Velis Electro, the world’s first certified electric aircraft. These planes, with minimal noise and zero gas emissions, have around thirty units flying in France for flying clubs and professional training, reported French local media.

The Edeis group, managing the Tours airport until 2035, aims to embrace the electric challenge. In 2023, they commissioned a report emphasizing the potential of regional airports for ecological growth. The group plans to invest in an electric charging station and a 19-hectare photovoltaic park in Tours by 2029, in collaboration with Engie, contributing to various forms of sustainable mobility beyond aviation.
