Indian Regulator Launches Electronic Licensing Services to Airline Transport Pilot Licence

23rd Jan 2026

India – The Indian Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has officially launched its Electronic Personnel Licence (EPL) service for Airline Transport Pilot Licence (ATPL) holders, marking a significant milestone in India’s ongoing aviation regulatory digitalisation efforts.

  • The EPL ATPL service was inaugurated on January 21, 2026, at DGCA Headquarters, expanding on earlier phases of the EPL roll-out that began in 2025 with the Commercial Pilot Licence (CPL) and Flight Radio Telephone Operator’s (Restricted) Licence (FRTOL).

  • The digital licence system is built with ICAO-aligned security protocols to ensure authenticity, prevent tampering, and allow for real-time verification by relevant authorities and airlines.

  • Pilots can now access their ATPL digitally through the DGCA’s eGCA mobile application, streamlining document management and verification for both pilots and operators.

  • The initiative aims to improve transparency, efficiency, and regulatory compliance across India’s fast-growing aviation sector.
