Intercontinental Aviation Academy Expands in Europe with Plans for New Portugal Training Base

Portugal – Intercontinental Aviation Academy (FlyIAA) has announced the launch of a new state-of-the-art, sustainability-focused aviation academy in Ponte de Sor, following the signing of a major investment agreement during Day 4 of the Dubai Airshow 2025. The project, planning an up to Euro 4 million investment, marks FlyIAA’s first dedicated training base in Portugal and strengthens the organisation’s expanding network of international aviation-training centres.

  • The academy will span 4,000 square metres within the Ponte de Sor Municipal Aerodrome, home to the region’s established Aeronautical Cluster.

  • Designed to become Europe’s most sustainable flight-training academy, the facility will integrate environmentally responsible infrastructure, energy-efficient systems, and eco-friendly operational practices.

  • Training will follow FlyIAA’s global standards of excellence, aligned with EASA, GCAA and ICAO frameworks, and delivered using modern equipment, advanced simulation and international best-practice methodologies.

  • The agreement was signed by Rogério Alves, Mayor of Ponte de Sor, and Captain Wissam Al Mehyou, Chairman of FlyIAA Global, marking a strategic milestone in Portugal’s aviation-sector growth and FlyIAA’s wider European expansion.
