Airbus Names CEO of Airbus Commercial Aircraft from 2026
Global – Lars Wagner, currently Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of MTU Aero Engines AG, based in Munich, will join the Airbus Executive Committee and succeed Christian Scherer as CEO of the Commercial Aircraft business, effective 1 January 2026.
Lars Wagner will join Airbus from the beginning of November 2025 to ensure a smooth transition with Christian Scherer. Christian remains CEO of the Commercial Aircraft business until 31 December 2025, topping a career spanning over 40 years in several executive roles with Airbus.
Lars Wagner, 50, has held the position of CEO at MTU Aero Engines AG since January 2023. Prior to his appointment as CEO and since joining MTU in 2015, Lars notably assumed the roles of Chief Operating Officer and Executive Vice President in charge of OEM operations. He previously held a number of management positions at Airbus including in Bremen, Hamburg and Toulouse. Lars holds a degree in mechanical and aeronautical engineering as well as an MBA.

DGCA Issues July 2025 Circular Requiring Certified Safety Managers at Indian FTOs
India – The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has issued Flying Training Circular 02 of 2025, dated July 3, 2025, mandating the appointment of dedicated Safety Managers and SMS Trainers across all DGCA-approved Flying Training Organizations (FTOs). The circular enhances India’s aviation safety oversight by aligning domestic training practices with ICAO Annex 19 and DOC 9859 standards.

All DGCA-approved FTOs must now appoint a dedicated Safety Manager, who cannot concurrently hold any other position within the organization.

The Safety Manager must:

Have at least one year of aviation experience

Hold an SMS certification
-
Be approved through an oral assessment conducted by DGCA

Core responsibilities include:
-
Implementation and maintenance of the Safety Management System (SMS)
-
Safety data collection, flight data monitoring, and risk assessments
-
Emergency drill execution and response planning
-
Dissemination of safety goals and continuous safety promotion

Approval will be granted for up to two years via the eGCA portal, subject to passing an oral exam on DGCA regulations, ICAO guidance, and internal FTO procedures.

SMS Trainers must have:

A minimum of two years of experience as a Safety Manager

Successfully completed a Train the Trainer course

SMS training aligned with Appendix B of CAR Section-1, Series-C, Part I

Gurgaon, India – Indian aviation training group operating both flight schools and full flight simulator training centers FSTC (Flight Simulation Technique Centre) has announced the commencement of a new Airbus A320 type rating batch comprising thirteen pilots at its Gurgaon training center.
FSTC also offers training benefits such as airline preparation modules, interview guidance, and complimentary sim practice for select programs.
