Czech Republic Flight Training Group F AIR Cadets Visit Airline Partner’s Maintenance Facilities

One of Europe’s largest flight schools, when measured by fleet size, Czech Republic-based F AIR Ltd facilitated a visit for its Smart Wings (SW) Cadet Pilot Program students to Smart Wings’ maintenance hangar and Operational Control Center (OCC). The initiative was well-received by the aspiring cadets, providing them with valuable insights into the operational and maintenance aspects of aviation. In addition to the visit to Smart Wings’ facilities, the cadets had previously explored the Air Traffic Control (ATC) at LKPR, enhancing their understanding of the intricacies of air traffic management.

Back in January 2023 F AIR aviation training center in cooperation with the Smartwings airline launched the cadet program. The program is intended for those interested in a professional pilot’s license and a job opportunity at the Smartwings airline. The aim of this program is to ensure efficient and high-quality ATPL training extended by specific knowledge and skills needed for subsequent seamless integration into the Smartwings airline. The training is completed by obtaining a CPL(A) commercial pilot license with MEP/IR(A) qualifications and ATPL(A) theory (ATPL(A) frozen), AUPRT, and MCC certificates. The training takes place in accordance with the operational requirements of Smartwings and under the supervision of a professional guarantor and instructors approved by Smartwings who also directly participate in the program. Participants of this program will receive a guarantee of an invitation to the selection process for the position of First Officer after completing the ATPL training.

AFM team note – flydubai, the Dubai-based airline, announced its new agreement with Smartwings, the Czech Republic-based airline, to wet lease four Next-Generation Boeing 737-800 aircraft between 17 October 2023 and 16 April 2024.

Flight Simulator Manufacturer Survey Shows Significant Increase in Flight Training Cost Since 2020

On March 4, 2024, at the 2024 Redbird Migration Flight Training Conference, flight simulator manufacturer Redbird Flight (Redbird) released the results of its fourth annual State of Flight Training Survey. The report offers insights into how stakeholders – from prospective students to flight school owners and designated pilot examiners – responded to questions about their motivations, aspirations, challenges, tools, activities, and results related to flight training. It includes a high-level brief and visualizations.

The report covers key market dynamics, emerging trends, challenges, and opportunities shaping flight training, allowing industry professionals, advocacy groups, policymakers, and the general public to better understand and improve the health of the industry.

“We are excited to offer our latest report for free to the flight training community,” said Redbird VP of Marketing Josh Harnagel. “Since its launch in 2020, the report has become an essential resource for individuals and organizations wanting to make strategic decisions about their careers, businesses, and capital allocation based on years of industry data and analysis. We are grateful for the strong participation in the survey – up 57% from last year – and encouraged by industry stakeholders harnessing its insights to create a better future for aviation.”

Key highlights of the report include the following:

  • While, for the most part, the median time for a learner to complete a certificate or rating has decreased over the past four years, the median cost to achieve a certificate or rating has increased. For instance, the median time to complete a private pilot certificate decreased from 30 weeks in 2020 to 24 weeks in 2023. Yet the median cost increased from $9,000 to $14,000 over the same period.
  • Larger flight training providers consistently report better business results than smaller providers. In 2023, independent CFIs rated their business outcomes as 3.2 on a scale of one to five. Large flight training organizations (FTOs) rated their outcomes as 4.6.
  • Learners and pilots are more likely to value flight simulation in ab into training than are flight training providers, a trend that has persisted all four years of the survey.
