Newcastle Aerodrome, a Flight School in Ireland signs partnership with Nigerian Universities

The partnership brings Newcastle Aerodrome to open centres for Aviation Studies and commercial pilot certification in Nigerian universities, starting with the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, (UNN) and Igbinedion University, Okada (IUO).

Mr Ronan Mullin, Deputy Head of Mission, Embassy of Ireland, in his remarks, said that Ireland is a world leader in education and aviation. The nature of this partnership will provide mutual benefits: Nigerian universities are gaining good experience and the Nigerian students would have the opportunity to fly in Ireland and Newcastle Aerodrome and the aviation industry will benefit too.

Newcastle Aerodrome is a renowned aviation academy in Ireland.  The flight school said it chose to start its African expansion with Nigeria because of the availability of students, the English language, and the needed capacity.

The training takes two years and will commence in Nigeria and will be completed in Ireland.

Kenya Civil Aviation Authority (KCAA) announces a 64% drop in licenses issued in 2020/21 and lowest number of licenses issued in more than 4 years!

With the reducing number of trained and licensed pilots in Kenya, the Kenya Civil Aviation Authority (KCAA) has raised its concerns saying that 2020/21 financial year saw a huge dropped in training and licensing by only having 167 pilots compared to 456 from the previous financial year.

This means that there is a 64-percent drop and a four-year low recorded in the local aviation industry. One of the challenges in the local industry that was also taken into consideration was the poaching of local pilots by global airlines as stated by KCAA Director-General, Gilbert Kibe. However, he downplayed the risk of a pilot shortage due to the fall in graduate numbers by saying “We have more than enough pilots, but this will change when new growth in air transport will bring back jobs starting domestically next year and internationally in 2023.”

Canadian Pilot Training Organisation, International Pilot Academy, announced a partnership with Air Djibouti to launch a new Pilot Training Center in Djibouti, starting in January 2022!

The training center will allow students from all over the world to register in the Integrated Airline Transport Pilot License offered by International Pilot Academy and obtain the corresponding certification from Transport Canada.

Abdourahman Ali Abdillahi, CEO of Air Djibouti stated that “The project will be novel of its kind in Horn of Africa. We are glad to welcome students from around the globe to Djibouti, which is one of the most peaceful countries in the world.” He further said that “the suitable economic standards for students and favourable climate with little seasonal variation translates to good flying weather all year round thus saving cost and money on training.” Mr. Abdillahi added that “the project will help increase the level of activity in Djibouti and demonstrate that our investment has a positive economic impact for the region.”

Jules Selwan, President and CEO of International Pilot Academy confirmed that “International Pilot Academy already has more than a decade of experience in professional pilot training. This training hub in Djibouti gives students the opportunity for higher training standards within a Canadian Flight Training Organization.”
