Aircraft Manufacturer Airbus Delivers 316 Commercial Aircraft, Secures 1,044 Orders During H1 2023

Europe-headquartered global aircraft manufacturer, Airbus, released its Half-Year (H1) 2023 results showing progress across its business units.

“During the first half of 2023 we progressed well across our businesses in an operational environment that remains complex. Our commercial aircraft are in strong demand, as demonstrated by more than 800 orders announced at the Paris Air Show. This demand is driven both by growth and fleet replacement as airlines invest in more fuel efficient fleets,” said Guillaume Faury, Airbus Chief Executive Officer. “Based on this H1 performance, we maintain our 2023 guidance.”

Highlights:

On Orders and Deliveries

  • Gross commercial aircraft orders totalled 1,080 (H1 2022: 442 aircraft) with net orders of 1,044 aircraft after cancellations (H1 2022: 259 aircraft)
  • Order backlog amounted to a record 7,967 commercial aircraft at the end of June 2023
  • Airbus Helicopters registered 131 net orders (H1 2022: 163 units) which were well spread across programmes and included 19 H160s
  • 316 commercial aircraft were delivered (H1 2022: 297 aircraft)
    • 25 A220s
    • 256 A320 Family
    • 14 A330s
    • 21 A350s
  • Helicopters’ deliveries increased to 145 units (H1 2022: 115 units), mainly driven by the Light helicopter segment
  • Three A400M military airlifters were delivered in H1 2023

On Production – Narrowbody

  • A220 programme is continuing towards a monthly production rate of 14 aircraft in the middle of the decade
  • A320 Family programme is progressing well towards the previously announced rate of 75 aircraft per month in 2026
  • A321XLR’s flight test programme is progressing towards the expected entry-into-service in Q2 2024
  • The recent inauguration of a new A321 capable final assembly line in Toulouse is the latest concrete milestone in the development of Airbus’ global industrial system

On Production – Widebody

  • Continues to target rate 4 for the A330 in 2024
  • Continues to target rate 9 for the A350 at the end of 2025

2023 Outlook

  • 720 commercial aircraft deliveries

Capt. Ibrahim Koshy, CEO of SAUDIA, highlighted the outstanding flight operations, punctuality rates, and guest transportation achieved during this period. These accomplishments align with the airline’s commitment to efficiency and operational safety, which are of paramount importance. Capt. Koshy also emphasized the crucial role played by the national flag carrier in supporting the growth of the tourism, business, Hajj and Umrah sectors through strategic partnerships. Moreover, SAUDIA has increased its seat capacity and flight frequency to cater to the growing demand for travel, firmly establishing itself as a key player in bringing the world to the Kingdom.

It is worth noting that the first half of 2023 witnessed the successful inauguration of three new international destinations within SAUDIA’s expansive flight network. These destinations include Dar es Salaam in Tanzania, Gatwick International Airport in London, UK, and Nice in France. These additions further bolster SAUDIA’s market share in international aviation, offering a diverse range of options for guests. Additionally, during this period, the airline welcomed its first Airbus A321neo aircraft, marking the beginning of a fleet expansion plan that will see the incorporation of 20 aircraft of the same model by 2026. The airline’s fleet, comprising various models from esteemed manufacturers Boeing and Airbus, now stands at an impressive total of 140 aircraft.
