Thrust Flight announces a partnership with Avelo Airlines to give Thrust Flight instructors and students the opportunity to launch a career with Avelo. This Preferred Hiring Pathway will allow Thrust Flight pilots who have achieved their hour requirements to quickly move to Avelo Airlines and begin flying as airline pilots.
Thrust Flight is known for its friendly, welcoming environment with instructors who are determined to help their students succeed. This culture meshes perfectly with Avelo’s One Crew Culture, which focuses on building the team to better serve the customer.

Thrust Flight and Avelo Airlines signed a formal Memorandum of Understanding (MOU), formalizing the partnership. This Preferred Hiring Pathway will open the door for Thrust Flight instructors and students from their Zero Time to Airline program to meet with Avelo recruiters and demonstrate their qualifications to join the Avelo flight crew.

Alaska Airlines Appoints Captain Dave Mets as the New Vice President of Flight Operations
Alaska Airlines’ board of directors has elected Captain Dave Mets as vice president of flight operations. In this role, Mets will oversee the day-to-day operations and financial performance of Alaska’s flight operations division, which includes Alaska’s 3,500 pilots.
“Anyone who knows Dave knows that he is a thoughtful, hard-working and caring leader,” said Constance von Muehlen, chief operating officer for Alaska Airlines. “Dave’s impeccable track record in flight operations demonstrates his commitment to safety, transparent leadership and focus on operational excellence. Alaska will benefit from the highest standards to which he holds himself and his team.”
A 23-year veteran of Alaska Airlines, Mets started his career at Alaska in 1999 as a first officer on the Boeing 737-200, and took on roles of increasing responsibility over the years, including serving as base chief pilot in Seattle and Portland, Oregon, and as a flight operations duty officer. Mets was appointed to this new role after serving as interim vice president since April 2022. Most recently Mets has been a key part of securing a new collective bargaining agreement with Alaska Airlines pilots and is leading his division in Alaska’s transition to an all-Boeing fleet.
As a graduate of the U.S. Air Force Academy, Mets spent 25 years both on active-duty and in the Air Force Reserve. His military experience includes flying the Lockheed C-141B Starlifter as an instructor pilot, an aircraft commander in the Boeing C-17 Globemaster and a satellite launch countdown controller in the NAVSTAR GPS program at Cape Canaveral Air Force Station. His service includes time in Bosnia, Afghanistan, Iraq and resupplying McMurdo Station, Antarctica in the C-17.

“2022 ‘Best Year on Record’ for United States Pilot Hiring” – FAPA
A report from the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association (AOPA) citing the figures from the Future and Active Pilot Advisors (FAPA), the US airline industry is seeing a huge increase in pilots hired from January to October of this year – 11,372 pilots hired by 12 major airlines. According to FAPA, it is projected that by the end of the year, 13,500 pilots will be hired making 2022 the ‘best year on record’ for pilot hiring. According to AOPA, figure was set in 2021 when there were 5,426 pilots hired, which has never happened since 2000.
